Indefinite leave to remain
Many UK visa types allow a visa holder to settle in the UK after a period of time. Eligibility criteria and document requirements vary. Changes Immigration lawyers have extensive experience in assisting with settlement applications. We provide tailored advice to ensure the most robust application.
How we can help
Settle as a Skilled Worker
If you lived and worked in the UK on a UK Skilled Worker visa for 5 years, or have held a valid Partner visa for 5 years, you might be eligible to apply for indefinite leave. Changes Immigration can navigate any complex on your behalf, e.g. if the details of your role as a Skilled Worker have changed, or you have spent a substantial period of time outside the UK or your time spent in the UK has been on different visa types.
Settle on a work or business visa
Some non-sponsored work and business visas, such as the Global Talent visa and the Innovator Founder visa, can lead to settlement or indefinite leave to remain in the UK. Working with Changes Immigration will best ensure your application meets all the relevant requirements, including the requirements relating to your business and the limits on absences from the UK, usually 180 days in a 12-month period.
Discuss your eligibility to settle
If you have questions about your potential eligibility for indefinite leave to remain, we would be pleased to advise. Perhaps you have been a lawful resident in the UK for 10 years but are unsure if you meet all requirements to apply for indefinite leave on the basis of Long Residence. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens might need help to assess the viability of appealing a refusal under the EU Settlement Scheme. For these and other questions on how to settle in the UK, contact us for advice.

Indefinite leave to remain explained
The requirements for indefinite leave to remain (ILR) or ‘settlement’ in the UK vary between different visa routes. Eligibility criteria for settlement under most routes include limits on absences from the UK during the ‘qualifying period’ or required duration of residence in the UK, which is usually 3 or 5 years. English language and Life in the UK test requirements are required for most ILR application types other than Settled Status under the EU Settlement Scheme.
We have extensive experience in assisting with settlement applications for Skilled Workers, Spouse or Partner visa holders, Global Talent visa holders, EU Settlement Scheme status holders, Ancestry visa holders and more. Long Residence in the UK, i.e. 10 years or more as a lawful resident in the UK, can serve as the basis for an application for indefinite leave to remain and Changes Immigration have a successful track record with this type of application too.
What does it mean if you have indefinite leave to remain?
If you have indefinite leave to remain, it means you no longer have any time limit on your ability to stay in the UK. You can live, study and work in the UK for an unlimited time without the need to apply for a visa extension. You can also leave and re-enter the UK without any immigration restrictions.
