Spouse visa UK explained

We support British nationals, people settled in the UK and EU nationals with pre-settled status to secure Partner visas, or ‘spouse visas’, and visas for other family members. In addition to the genuine and subsisting relationship requirement, eligibility requirements for a Spouse visa include financial requirements and English language proficiency. Spouse visa holders can work in the UK on the basis of employment or self employment; note that different conditions apply to fiancé(e)s and proposed civil partners.

The Home Office grants initial Spouse visas for 2 years 6 months if you are applying from within the UK or 2 years 9 months if you are applying from outside the UK. Fiancé(e)s and Proposed Civil Partners are granted 6 months in which to marry in the UK and apply for a further Spouse visa. You have to make a further UK Spouse visa application for a further 2.5 years, if you would like to stay in the UK beyond the initial period of grant. Once you have held a Spouse visa for a total of 5 years, you might be eligible to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain, also called ‘settlement’.

Changes Immigration have an excellent track record of success in family visas. Eligibility criteria can be complex and processes opaque. Get in touch for peace of mind when making an application.
