Sponsor guidance and right to work documents

At Changes Immigration, we have an excellent track record in supporting sponsors with compliance and in defending sponsor licences against suspension and revocation.

Sponsors and other UK employers alike must ensure that their workers have the appropriate permission to work in the UK. We support UK businesses with checking right to work documents in line with the government regime to prevent illegal working.

How we can help

Checking right to work documents

Employers who check permission to work in the UK according to Home Office requirements benefit from a statutory excuse from civil penalty, i.e. fines of up to £60,000. We have the expertise to quickly assess any issues with your current right to work checking processes and help you to establish and maintain a statutory excuse from civil penalty.

Defending your sponsor licence

If you are a sponsor and the Home Office has notified you of a compliance check, or has already conducted a compliance visit and has notified you of a suspension or revocation of your sponsor licence, please get in touch with us immediately so that we can best defend your sponsor licence.

Right to work and sponsor compliance explained

Robust right to work checks are critical in the UK, where employers of illegal workers may be fined, named, and shamed, have their premises shut and even be jailed. Changes Immigration can help you implement the processes for checking that workers have the relevant permission to work in the UK or advise on an ad hoc basis if you have a specific query. We have experience in challenging illegal working fines.

Businesses sponsoring foreign workers need to ensure compliance with wider sponsor duties too. The Home Office may otherwise revoke a business’s sponsor licence, preventing them from continuing to employ sponsored workers who are essential to the success of the business.

If your organisation is contacted by the Home Office about a compliance visit of any kind, please get in touch with us for support right away to ensure the most robust defence.

We offer a range of highly rated immigration training sessions on right to work checks and sponsor compliance in addition to advice.

What documents can you use to prove right to work?

Documents that may be used to prove the right to work include an eVisa, a British passport, and an endorsement in a current passport. The Home Office publishes lists of all the documents that evidence the right to work in the UK.

A UK employer must complete specific processes for each of these types of documents, to verify the holder’s right to work in the UK.
